The History of Dringhouses Three versions are available: Part One (from prehistory through to the nineteenth century, including the Roman settlement, the medieval farming community and the brickmaking industry); Part Two (the nineteenth and twentieth centuries); Parts One and Two together (in less detail).
The History of the Knavesmire The racecourse and various features around the edge of the original ancient common, including Tyburn, the 1913 bandstand, Knavesmire Wood and the Royal Observer Corps building.
The History of Hob Moor The history of this ancient common including historical landscape features, the 1604-5 plague and some natural history (Hob Moor is a Local Nature Reserve).
Like Mother, Like Daughter Fanny Rollo Wilkinson (1856-1951, daughter of the Lord of Dringhouses Manor), the first professional lady landscape gardener, and her female antecedents. Including references to the changing status of women in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
From Gillamoor to Dringhouses: The Life of John Close, Gentleman John Close was from a very humble background but rose to be Lord Mayor of York. He lived the latter part of his life in Dringhouses (in what is now the Marriott Hotel); he had many children and there is a very important link with Slingsby in Ryedale.
